Principal Engineer - Core Cloud Platform

About the role

The Core Cloud Platform team owns AlphaSense's entire cloud infrastructure, including AWS account management, networking, data storages and Kubernetes clusters, supporting hundreds of services used by over 400 globally distributed engineers. As a Principal Engineer you will set the architectural roadmap for the cloud, Kubernetes and storage platform and take ownership of the cloud-side configuration and Helm chart layer, while embracing AI tooling in your day-to-day work.

Key responsibilities

• Own the architectural roadmap for the cloud, Kubernetes and storage platform
• Own cloud-side configuration and the Helm chart layer for Cloud Core
• Build the cell registry and automate provisioning so new cell setup goes from weeks to days
• Design the cross-cell gate mechanism as a reusable standard checkpoint
• Operate and evolve the Cloud and Kubernetes platform, including data storage layers
• Make upgrades, patching and lifecycle management routine across hundreds of clusters
• Improve security, reliability, cost efficiency and performance of the infrastructure
• Drive standards, self-service and agentic workflow patterns, and build tooling and AI-powered integrations

Required profile

• Extremely experienced in Kubernetes, containerisation and AWS
• Proven track record running Kubernetes and cloud-based production SaaS systems at scale, including large fleets of hundreds of clusters
• Experience separating infrastructure configuration from application code and with cell-based, multi-tenant or multi-region architectures
• Ability to lead ambitious technical roadmaps and influence engineering leaders and senior engineers

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of SQL, MongoDB, ClickHouse and Elasticsearch
• Strong operational and troubleshooting skills for Kubernetes, databases and messaging systems
• Deep understanding of networking and production-level service meshes and gateways
• Proficiency in Python and Golang
• Nice to have: Vespa, end-to-end automated provisioning, lifecycle management tools, HashiCorp Vault or similar secret management
