Senior Software Engineer – NR-NTN Protocols (L2 & L3)

About the role

Join Skylo’s Protocol Stack team to design, implement, and validate 5G New Radio Non‑Terrestrial Network (NR‑NTN) Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocol software. You will work on MAC, RLC, PDCP and RRC implementations that run on Skylo’s cloud‑native NTN vRAN platform, collaborating closely with standards, systems and integration teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain C++ implementations of NR‑NTN L2/L3 stacks (MAC, RLC, PDCP, RRC).
• Implement NTN‑specific adaptations such as extended HARQ timers, coverage‑enhancement scheduling and constellation‑aware MAC resource management.
• Develop RRC enhancements for satellite ephemeris broadcast, UE assistance information, and measurement frameworks.
• Collaborate with Core Network and MNO teams to validate NGAP procedures in lab and live environments.
• Debug, root‑cause and tune L2/L3 performance issues on Linux‑based platforms.

Required profile

• 2+ years of hands‑on software engineering experience in wireless/telecom protocol development, focusing on L2/L3 stacks.
• Master’s or PhD in Wireless Communications, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or a related field.
• Strong proficiency in C++ (C++14/17) for production‑grade embedded or near‑real‑time software.
• Deep knowledge of 5G NR Layer 2 protocols (MAC, RLC, PDCP) and RRC state machines.
