Senior Protection Engineer - Substation Automation

About the role

Hitachi Energy's Grid Automation business is looking for a Senior Protection Engineer to join its engineering and testing team in Vaasa, Finland. The role covers the control and protection scope of substation automation projects worldwide, working closely with the project manager, the SCADA engineer and the customer. Depending on project size, you will technically lead a small team of engineers in the global engineering centres.

Key responsibilities

• Develop protection and control concepts for (sub-)transmission systems with the project team and the customer
• Lead the hardware design of bay-level cubicles in substations
• Configure Protection and Control IEDs according to customer specifications
• Carry out factory testing in the Vaasa test area and lead the Factory Acceptance Test in front of the customer
• Lead the control and protection site tests at customer locations
• Lead a small team of engineers across the global engineering centres

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, computer or systems engineering or a related field
• Previous experience in substation control and protection systems and communication protocols such as IEC 61850
• Experience with the Hitachi Energy Relion and PCM600 IED portfolio, and/or E3 series hardware design, is a big plus
• Spoken and written Finnish and English
• Ability to work independently and in teams, with a structured, proactive approach to project budget and schedule
