About the role
Grid Solutions is looking for a Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer to join its global FACTS (NPI) team, based in Tampere, Finland. The company supplies high-power (>100 MVAr) FACTS devices such as STATCOMs, SVCs, fixed series capacitors and synchronous condensers, which control voltage and reactive power flow and help integrate renewables. The Tampere centre focuses on power electronics-based STATCOM and SVC products. The role reports to the global FACTS NPI Manager and centres on research and development of control systems for SVC and STATCOM.
Key responsibilities
- Rigorous execution of NPI projects and design and implementation of new control features.
- Develop control system designs for grid-connected power electronic devices, including dynamic behaviour analysis of FACTS devices.
- Produce high-quality study documents and specifications, and plan, organise and participate in testing.
- Contribute to technical negotiations with customers and stakeholders, support equipment sourcing and technical tendering.
- Contribute to patents and scientific publications, and educate stakeholders.
- Close collaboration with the local Control Software Engineering team and the HVDC NPI team in Stafford, UK.
Required profile
- MSc (or higher) in Power or Control System Engineering, or equivalent.
- Specialised knowledge of electrical power engineering and control system design.
- Understanding of control theory behind grid-connected devices and of compensation systems and power electronics.
- Fluent written and spoken English and Finnish; other languages are a benefit.
- Strong prioritising and time management skills.
- Desired: good negotiation skills, ability to work in teams and independently, willingness to lead projects and work in an international environment.
Required skills
- Simulation tools for electric systems such as PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, RTDS or PSSE.
- Advantageous: understanding of voltage source converter grid connection.
