Lead Engineer, Network Solutions

About the role

KONE is seeking a Lead Engineer to develop and validate wired and wireless network solutions for its elevator systems. The role is hands‑on, focusing on reliability, performance and security, and involves taking designs from concept through laboratory testing to productisation.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in the design of KONE products using both wired and wireless networks, including cyber‑security aspects.
• Collaborate with architecture, security, systems engineering and development teams in R&D.
• Manage technical requirements, specifications and testing documentation for networking products.
• Design, build and test network and wireless solutions in laboratory and lifelike environments.
• Document network topology, configurations and operational procedures.
• Lead small‑scale technical projects and maintain R&D development environments.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience in network engineering, telecommunications, embedded development or a similar role.
• Solid grasp of networking fundamentals (OSI, TCP/IP, Layer 2, IPv4 subnetting).
• Hands‑on experience with switching protocols (VLANs, STP), firewalls and network security best practices.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and methodical problem‑solving approach.
• Fluent English, as it is the working language in R&D.

Required skills

• Network monitoring and diagnostic tools (Wireshark, tcpdump, ping, tracert, nslookup, netstat).
• Knowledge of DNS, DHCP and VPN.
• Experience with wireless point‑to‑point microwave communications (link planning, alignment, band selection).
• Use of dedicated traffic‑generator/test equipment (e.g., Xena, Spirent, Keysight/Ixia) for throughput and latency validation.
• Scripting/automation (Python, Bash, Ansible, Terraform) and API work (REST, JSON).
• Familiarity with benchmarking methodologies (RFC 2544, ITU‑T Y.1564).
