Head of Legal Finland

About the role

HITACHI ENERGY is looking for a high-calibre legal counsel to act as Head of Legal for its legal entity in Finland and strengthen its global legal team by advising all Finnish business units and overseeing the Baltics. The role reports to the Head of Legal Europe and implements global strategy while advising local management on legal and integrity issues. The preferred location is Helsinki or Vaasa, with a possible hybrid model and occasional domestic and overseas travel.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice across a broad range of issues, especially contracts and tenders, and on projects under execution.
• Develop legal strategies, mitigation actions and practical solutions supporting business activities.
• Negotiate contract terms with customers and liaise with internal stakeholders, including risk review.
• Promote dispute avoidance and manage disputes and litigation internally and externally.
• Ensure good corporate governance and support the Code of Ethics and Business Conduct, including investigations into integrity issues.
• Be an active member of the Country Management Team and the local Board of Directors.
• Act as local contact for data privacy matters with the global Privacy Team.
• Design and deliver training on contractual and legal topics.
• Manage and lead one direct report (Legal Counsel).

Required profile

• University law degree (Master of Laws).
• Strong experience of 7-10 years, for example on major construction or engineering projects, with a track record of complex international corporate and commercial transactions, claims and litigation.
• Knowledge of YSE 1998, FIDIC, NL/NLM and Orgalim terms and conditions is a benefit.
• Business-minded, committed and solution-oriented, with strong communication, decision-making and interpersonal skills.
