Graduate Engineer, Signal Processing

About the role

Skylo is looking for a graduate engineer to join its Protocol Stack team in Espoo, working on 5G New Radio Non‑Terrestrial Network (NR‑NTN) Layer 1 and Layer 2 implementations. You will design, implement and validate PHY, MAC, FAPI and scheduler software that runs on a live satellite network, with mentorship from senior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement 5G NR Layer 1 DSP algorithms for Doppler tracking, CFO pre‑compensation and ICI mitigation.
• Write and maintain C++ code for the NR‑NTN L1/L2 protocol stack, including MAC and DL/UL schedulers.
• Implement NTN‑specific adaptations such as extended HARQ timers, timing‑advance pre‑compensation and satellite‑aware link adaptation.
• Develop test cases, simulation harnesses and automation to validate behavior against 3GPP specifications.
• Support lab and field validation across LEO/GEO environments and debug issues using GDB, Valgrind, perf and Wireshark.
• Translate 3GPP Rel‑17/18 specifications into software requirements and participate in code reviews and architecture discussions.

Required profile

• Strong C++ programming ability with understanding of memory management and the standard library.
• Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Wireless Communications, Telecommunications, Computer Science or a related field.
• Knowledge of digital communications and signal‑processing fundamentals (modulation, channel coding, OFDM, link budgets).
• Familiarity with 5G NR or LTE concepts such as frame structure, HARQ and scheduling.
• Comfortable working in Linux and using Git for version control.
• Curiosity and persistence when debugging complex protocol issues.
