Engineering Manager - Control Software

About the role

As Engineering Manager for Control Software within GE Vernova's Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) business, you will lead a global engineering team delivering the control software behind advanced reactive power systems. Finland is the global Centre of Excellence for this technology, and the role combines leading a team with shaping the technology itself.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Control Software team across the full project lifecycle, from tender evaluation through detailed design to on-site commissioning, balancing people leadership with technical delivery.
• Manage day-to-day people leadership, mentor team members, support new recruitment and build a resource portfolio that scales with project demand.
• Plan, organise and execute software activities for tenders and live projects, meeting demanding customer specifications.
• Validate resource needs and work estimates across the portfolio and resolve gaps early.
• Champion a first-time-right culture and identify continuous improvement opportunities in engineering processes.
• Define and track KPIs for the team and individual contributors, and contribute to technical R&D in FACTS control software.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (Bachelor's or Master's) or similar; experience and professional achievements are more important than formal education.
• Relevant experience in substation or grid control software design, including FACTS, HVDC or renewable energy integration.
• Familiarity with engineering process development and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Strong written and spoken English; Finnish is preferred.
• Preferred: experience managing or mentoring engineering teams internationally, exposure to high-power reactive power systems (over 100 MVAr) such as STATCOM or SVC, and a formal electrical engineering degree.
