University Lecturer or Senior University Lecturer, Wood Science

About the role

Aalto University's Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems (Bio2) in the School of Chemical Engineering is looking for a University Lecturer or Senior University Lecturer in Wood Science. The role is mainly teaching wood science, independently and together with Aalto professors and researchers, while also developing the wood science curriculum and conducting independent research.

Key responsibilities

• Teach wood science at master's level (mostly in English) and bachelor's level (primarily in Finnish)
• Develop and improve the wood science curriculum and teaching
• Contribute to the curriculum with the senior academic staff responsible for wood science
• Carry out independent research supporting the department's strategic aims
• Apply for funding for teaching development and/or research
• Supervise students at all levels (BSc, MSc, DSc)

Required profile

• Doctoral degree in a field related to wood science (civil, mechanical or chemical engineering, forest engineering, chemistry, physics)
• Demonstrable teaching experience and commitment, such as lectures and laboratory work
• Research track record in wood science or a closely related field
• Minimum 5 ECTS (or equivalent) pedagogical studies for a lecturer position and 25 ECTS for a senior lecturer
• Excellent written and oral English; Finnish and/or Swedish and knowledge of the Finnish university system and woodworking industry are a merit

Required skills

• Future-oriented skills such as AI, entrepreneurship, business, data analysis and circularity of wood products
• Teaching multidisciplinary groups, developing educational material and raising research or teaching funding are a merit
