About the role

We are seeking a motivated Doctoral Researcher to join a Research Council of Finland‑funded project that explores how artificial intelligence can responsibly support novice programming students. The project focuses on addressing emotional needs, well‑being, and persistence while complying with EU AI regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Design and conduct empirical studies on multimodal emotion and attention in programming learning.
• Develop and evaluate AI‑based tools that provide transparent, privacy‑preserving support to students.
• Analyse data in line with the EU AI Act requirements and responsible AI principles.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary partners, including educators and AI ethicists.
• Publish findings in peer‑reviewed conferences and journals.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Educational Technology, Psychology, or a related field.
• Strong interest in responsible AI, educational data mining, and student well‑being.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.

Required skills

• Research methodology (quantitative and qualitative).
• Familiarity with AI concepts and ethical guidelines.
