Legal Counsel – Open Source & IP

About the role

Nokia is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its IP Legal team. You will be the primary legal contact for open‑source software matters and will help shape Nokia’s internal compliance programme while advising on a wide range of IP and technology‑related issues across the Group.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal support for open‑source software, developing and leading Nokia’s internal compliance program.
• Advise global business units on IP, open‑source, and technology‑related legal questions related to sales, procurement, M&A and other transactions.
• Collaborate with the licensing business to address open‑source and IP issues arising from technology licensing activities.
• Support business development and R&D initiatives with appropriate legal guidance.
• Deliver training on IP matters to the wider Nokia legal community and ensure effective compliance processes.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in law with 4‑5 years of post‑qualification experience in a law firm or in‑house role.
• Qualified to practice in at least one key jurisdiction where Nokia operates.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, fluent in written and spoken English.
• Ability to work independently within a global team and resolve problems autonomously.
• AI‑native mindset – comfortable selecting and using AI tools appropriately in legal work.

Required skills

• Extensive experience with open‑source software legal matters.
• Deep knowledge of intellectual property and technology‑related legal issues.
• Proficiency in drafting, negotiating and executing complex international legal arrangements.
