Doctoral Researcher in Real Estate Economics

About the role

Aalto University's Real Estate Research Group, within the School of Engineering, Department of Built Environment, is looking for a doctoral researcher in real estate economics. The work centres on strategic asset management and sustainable transition, from the viewpoint of real estate owners, investors and service providers, and aims to find profitable ways to extend the technical, functional and financial lifespans of residential buildings and portfolios. The research is carried out on the UP-STOCK project, financed by several partners including Business Finland and Aalto University.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out doctoral research in strategic asset management and sustainable transition, and publish and communicate results (reports, articles, conference presentations)
• Analyse building-level technical transition costs and develop new business, financing and implementation models such as servitisation, crowdfunding and asset digitalisation
• Complete 30 ECTS of doctoral coursework
• Work closely with the UP-STOCK partners and stakeholders
• Teach and/or assist in real estate courses (10% of working time)
• Take part in applying for research funding

Required profile

• Masters' degree in a relevant field such as real estate economics, construction economics, business administration and management, building technology, quantity surveying or property management, with excellent grades
• Excellent collaboration skills with companies and universities, and willingness to work on the partner university campus when needed
• Excellent English writing and presentation skills; Finnish is an asset

What we offer

• Two-year fixed-term contract, with possible extension after a successful midterm review
• Starting salary of EUR 3,143 per month, rising as research and studies progress
• Annual working time of 1,612 hours; start as soon as possible and no later than 1 January 2027
