Community Affairs Manager

About the role

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation team is seeking a Community Affairs Manager for the Vaasa region in Finland. You will lead the relationship between our datacenter and local communities, shaping strategy, delivering social impact programmes and managing reputation risks.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the primary point of contact between Microsoft datacenters and local stakeholders, including residents, NGOs, businesses and municipal authorities.
• Develop and implement location‑specific community strategy plans aligned with Microsoft’s mission and CO+I priorities.
• Design and execute community investment programmes such as STEM education, skilling initiatives and environmental sustainability projects.
• Collect qualitative and quantitative community data, translate insights into actionable plans, and monitor sentiment shifts.
• Proactively address community concerns, manage complaints, and support crisis‑related communications.
• Identify social and political risks, recommend mitigation actions and coordinate hyper‑local narrative development.
• Support government engagement at local and regional levels, ensuring clear roles and expectations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in community affairs, public affairs or community engagement for large infrastructure projects.
• Strong track record of building and maintaining relationships with diverse local stakeholders.
• Understanding of social and environmental investment programmes and ability to align them with corporate commitments.
• Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate community insights into strategic actions.
• Ability to monitor and manage reputation risks and respond to emerging issues quickly.
