Business Controller – R&D Finance Partner

About the role

IQM is looking for a Business Controller to become the financial partner for its R&D organization. You will work closely with R&D leaders, engineers and finance colleagues to provide the visibility and insight needed to turn ambitious research into scalable quantum computing products.

Key responsibilities

• Own R&D financials, including project cost tracking, cost allocation validation and performance analysis.
• Monitor spend against budgets and forecasts, flagging variances, risks and potential overruns early.
• Partner with R&D and Engineering teams to deliver financial insights that guide prioritisation and resource allocation.
• Build and maintain financial models translating technical development into clear business outcomes.
• Manage grant‑funded projects, ensuring compliance, eligible‑cost tracking and optimal use of public funding.
• Drive budgeting, rolling forecasting and scenario‑planning processes.
• Improve R&D financial processes, reporting frameworks and project‑tracking tools.
• Collaborate with Accounting, auditors and external advisors to maintain strong internal controls.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in financial controlling, business controlling or FP&A.
• Proven ability to work with complex R&D portfolios and grant‑funded projects.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on data quality and documentation standards.
