Technical Manager – New Build Operations

About the role

The Technical Manager is responsible for all technical matters related to new‑build ships, ensuring they are ready for delivery in line with contract specifications. The role will be based in Turku, Finland or the Netherlands and works closely with shipyards, superintendents and operations teams.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in new‑ship specification and concept development, overseeing the contract process.
• Supervise technical design, approvals, quay and sea‑trial tests, and manage inspection reports and follow‑up actions.
• Ensure vessels are delivered on time, within budget, and meet all quality and regulatory standards.
• Maintain compliance with SOLAS, IMO, MARPOL and other relevant regulations, including USPH and environmental requirements.
• Coordinate technical modifications, energy and environmental projects, and improvement initiatives.
• Manage technical meetings, act as the point of contact between the yard and partners, and develop tools for reliable progress tracking.

Required profile

• Naval architecture or marine engineering background with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or vessel operations/Chief Engineer experience with an unlimited licence.
• Proven experience in new‑building design processes, site surveys and system testing from either the owner or shipyard side.
• Ability to manage and drive projects independently, with strong risk‑assessment and management skills.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of SOLAS, IMO and MARPOL regulations.
• Computer literacy and proficiency with standard office software.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken).
• Understanding of naval architecture and marine engineering principles.
