Senior Lead SCADA/HMI Engineer

About the role

GE Vernova's Grid Solutions designs SCADA/HMI and communication systems used at electrical substations worldwide, including Utility SVC and STACOM products, and supports series compensation and synchronous condenser projects. As Senior Lead SCADA/HMI Engineer, you guide and elevate the work of other engineers through technical direction, structured reviews and formal approvals, and take ownership of the design, engineering, configuration and validation of SCADA/HMI and communication systems. The role sits within the global Engineering HVDC Centre of Excellence in Stafford, with relocation assistance provided.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and review design, specifications and deliverables, diagnose and resolve SCADA, HMI and communication issues, and drive continuous improvement
• Design SCADA architectures for STATCOM projects and develop HMIs for real-time monitoring and control
• Select and design communication protocols such as MODBUS, DNP3 and IEC 61850
• Oversee installation and commissioning, functional and performance testing, and system updates, patches and upgrades
• Ensure compliance with standards such as NERC CIP and IEC 62351, and apply cyber security practices such as IEC 62443
• Stay aware of emerging technologies and industry trends

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or Technology
• Advanced experience in SCADA engineering from energy, industrial or utility projects
• Fluent written and spoken English; ability to travel to customer sites
• Strong accountability, teamwork, communication and analytical skills, and ability to work in an international environment

Required skills

• SCADA engineering and familiarity with tools such as Aveva Plant SCADA, Eaton SMP gateway and Zenon
• Network traffic debugging tools such as Wireshark
• Testing and simulator tools such as IEDScout and TMW Test Harness
• Electrical design of substation secondary systems and electro-technical standards are a benefit
