Principal Engineer, Mobile Platform & Backend Systems

About the role

AlphaSense is expanding its AI‑powered workflow platform to mobile, enabling customers to access real‑time insights on the go. As a Principal Engineer in Mobile Platform & Backend Systems, you will shape the backend architecture that powers native iOS and Android applications and drive cross‑team technical priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Define technical direction for client‑facing APIs and backend services, simplifying integration across product workflows.
• Lead collaboration across application, search, AI, and platform teams to align architecture with customer and product needs.
• Deliver production‑ready services that span team boundaries, ensuring reuse beyond initial use cases.
• Partner with User Management and platform teams to evolve authentication, session handling, and access control for web and mobile.
• Mentor engineers, fostering technical judgment and reusable patterns across teams.

Required profile

• Extensive production backend and distributed‑systems expertise, with a track record of simplifying complex architectures.
• Strong hands‑on engineering experience and ability to make sound decisions on unfamiliar codebases.
• Proven ability to influence technical change across teams without direct authority.
• Product and stakeholder leadership that connects technical decisions to customer value.

Required skills

• Design and implementation of REST and GraphQL APIs.
• Deep knowledge of authentication, authorization, entitlements, and session management.
• Experience with observability, reliability, and performance engineering in production.
• Familiarity with event‑driven architectures, including Kafka.
• Experience with enterprise identity solutions such as Auth0 or Microsoft identity.
