FACTS R&D & Technology Development Leader

About the role

GE Vernova's FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) Solution Line enables grids to handle more renewable energy with greater stability. Reporting to the FACTS Solution Line Leader, this role leads research, development and engineering strategy behind STATCOM and FSC solutions, covering the full technology lifecycle from early-stage concepts to industrialized, market-ready products. It partners closely with the Value Proposition Leader so that developed technology becomes competitive products.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development of power electronics and controls technology for STATCOM and FSC, from early-stage concept through to industrialized solutions.
• Own the technical strategy and roadmap, including power electronics topologies, converter design and control system architecture.
• Drive global engineering programs from concept to industrialized product, ensuring performance and reliability.
• Translate market and customer needs into technical architectures, control strategies and scalable product platforms.
• Embed Design for Manufacturability and cost-out principles, and define reusable modular building blocks for the FACTS portfolio.
• Recruit, mentor and grow an engineering team of principal engineers, controls/power electronics specialists and NPI program managers, with closed-loop engineering using field performance data.
• Apply Lean and Agile practices to accelerate time-to-market while keeping safety, quality and technical integrity.
• Help shape the future operating model of technology innovation and product development.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering; Master's or PhD in Power Electronics, Power Systems or Controls strongly preferred.
• Significant hands-on and leadership experience in power electronics converter design and/or controls engineering for FACTS or comparable grid-scale technologies (STATCOM, SVC, HVDC), from early concept to commercial product.
• Proactive identification of technical risks using methods such as DFMEA.
• Fluent English, able to explain complex technical concepts to engineering and executive audiences.

Required skills

• Power electronics topologies, converter design and control system design and tuning.
• Working knowledge of NPI governance (gate reviews), Agile and Lean engineering; TRL frameworks are a plus.
• Familiarity with simulation tools such as PSCAD and MATLAB/Simulink is a plus.
