Engineering Manager, QE

About the role

AlphaSense is looking for an Engineering Manager, Quality Engineering (QE) to lead a team of quality engineers. You will combine hands‑on technical work with people management, shaping test strategy, coverage and quality‑by‑design across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Hire, manage performance and drive career growth for the QE team.
• Make technical quality decisions: review merge requests, test plans, improve test strategy and drive metrics on coverage, customer issues and quality debt.
• Own execution and prioritisation of the team’s quality commitments and maintain dashboards that give visibility into quality health.
• Partner with engineering managers, product managers, designers and peer QE managers to embed quality throughout the development lifecycle.

Required profile

• 3+ years in a team management role and 5+ years in quality engineering/QA at senior or staff level.
• Proven experience managing QA/QE or test‑automation engineers and building tools and processes adopted by other teams.
• Strong coaching ability with a track record of giving specific, direct feedback.

Required skills

• Deep technical knowledge of test planning, test strategy, automation and quality metrics.
• Experience with non‑deterministic or generative AI outputs, eval frameworks and golden datasets.
• Proficiency in at least one language: Kotlin, Python, JavaScript or Java.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure) and containerisation (Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with test automation frameworks, Test Management Systems (e.g., Allure TestOps) and performance engineering tools (k6, OpenTelemetry, Grafana).
